UrbanMind Project: EU Co-Funded Initiative to Reduce CO₂ Emissions
UrbanMind is a project launched under the EU’s European Data Space for Smart Communities programme in cooperation with the Municipality of Kranj, the twin city of Pula-Pola. The initiative brings together Slovenian partners Riko d.o.o. and 3FS, who contribute expertise in engineering, project management, and digital solution development.
The City of Pula-Pola and the Municipality of Kranj define their own needs and constraints, ensuring the project remains aligned with the public interest and strategic goals of urban development.
3FS provides specialist knowledge in software solutions and digital platforms – with extensive experience in implementing smart city systems – for building and expanding data spaces and related applications. The project includes:
- Installation of video equipment at traffic intersections in city centres
- Procurement of devices to monitor environmental parameters on public transport buses
- Construction of a data space
- Development of two applications based on this data space: one for traffic monitoring and predictive analytics, and another for tracking environmental parameters at specific micro-locations
The project also encompasses the management of the data space and the implementation of applications in both Kranj and Pula.
Key Project Goals:
- Reduction of CO₂ emissions by 10–25%
- Reduction of traffic congestion by up to 30%
- Increase in resource productivity by 15–25%
- Integration of data into urban planning and decision-making
- Promotion of fair and sustainable urban development
The total value of the project amounts to €3,000,000, with the EU co-financing 50%. The City of Pula-Pola contributes €347,750.
The cooperation agreement was signed on 1 November 2024, and the project will run until 1 May 2026. Implementation will be carried out jointly by the Department for Development Projects/Smart City, the Department for Development and EU Policies, the Department for Green Policies, and the Subdepartment for Transport.
